Jason graduated from the Clearwater Guide School in 1999. Jay brings a gentle, quiet competence and great angling skill to his guiding adventures. He can put you on trout wherever you choose to fish on our area waters. He lives in Truckee and when not guiding for Clearwater, he guides for steelhead on the Trinity River, and trout on the Truckee River and the stillwaters around Lake Tahoe.
Matt Grew up in the Redding area of Northern California where he honed his fishing skills on the many local creeks and rivers. After serving in combat in the US Marine Corps, Matt returned to Redding and the waters that he loves. A 2015 graduate of the Clearwater Guide School, Matt’s passion for fly fishing coupled with his easy going demeanor guarantees guests a fantastic experience on the water. In the winter, Matt chases steelhead on the Trinity River and trout on the Lower Sacramento River. He is also an active volunteer with the local chapter of Project Healing Waters, an organization dedicated to the physical and emotional rehabilitation of military service personnel through fly fishing and related activities. This involvement is a perfect fit that allows Matt to teach his love of fly fishing to his fellow veterans.
John has been fly fishing for over fifteen years, and worked in the industry for the past ten. He graduated from the 2009 Clearwater Guide School, and stayed on to become another great addition to our amazing guide staff. Before coming to the lodge John taught fly fishing schools at the Orvis store in Reno where he was also the fishing manager. His calm and patient style of teaching and guiding will make your day on the water a truly enjoyable experience.
David Neal attended the Clearwater Guide School in 2002 and went on to develop a successful spring and summer guide service business in Mammoth Lakes along with guiding steelhead anglers on the Trinity River in the winter. Dave recently relocated with his wife and daughter to Redding to be closer to the amazing northern CA rivers he loves so much. We are happy to have him join our team this year at Clearwater Lodge!
Mike also started guiding out of Clearwater over 25 years ago. He took a detour with Tom April to set up their own guide service around Mammoth Lakes, but eventually returned to the lure of the Fall River valley and its abundant fisheries. His upbeat personality and enthusiastic teaching skills make Mike a favorite amongst Clearwater guests. A resident of Grants Pass, Oregon, Mike can be found mastering the Umpqua and Trinity rivers during steelhead season.
