The growth of the area’s ski resorts and the boom of residential home building is putting tremendous pressure on local watersheds. Our intent is to guard against over-appropriation of water from Hot Creek and Mammoth Creek while protecting their fisheries. To do this, we will:
- Ensure provisions regarding minimum bypass flows in Mammoth Creek are chosen as approved projects within Mammoth Creek EIR
- Collaborate with Mammoth Creek Water District and the Department of Fish & Game to establish and govern a Fisheries Enhancement Fund
- Improve urban water conservation for the town of Mammoth Lakes
- Seek and achieve full appropriation designation of water resources in the Mammoth Lakes Basin
Key Partners: California Department of Fish & Game, Mammoth Community Water District, Natural Heritage Institute, Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, Sierra Nevada Aquatic Research Laboratory, State Water Resources Control Board
