Lahontan Cutthroat Trout Recovery

Sadly, this species suffers a high likelihood of extinction in California.

Our goal is two-fold:

  1. Protect and restore wild populations of Lahontan cutthroat
  2. To expand, connect and restore Lahontan cutthroat trout habitat in the Tahoe Basin, Truckee River Watershed and Carson and Walker River Watersheds

To succeed, we will:

  • Increase habitat for recovered populations
  • Engage in passage improvement projects
  • Protect and enhance native aquatic food-web connections
  • Protect wild strains of Lahontan cutthroat through monitoring, removal of non-native competitors and habitat restoration
  • Promote further Lahontan cutthroat reintroduction
