Meadow Restoration to Sustain Stream Flow and Native Inland Trout

Intact and functioning upstream meadow systems are critical contributors to healthy river systems and their native trout – yet 90% of the Sierra meadow systems are impacted and degraded by past and current land management activities.

Our goal is to restore fragile meadow systems in priority areas for Lahontan cutthroat, Paiute cutthroat, California golden, Little Kern golden, Eagle Lake rainbow, McCloud redband, Kern River rainbow and Goose Lake redband trout.

We will accomplish this by:

  • Identifying priority habitat restoration projects for native trout in the Sierra
  • Implementing restoration projects to restore key habitats and ecological processes

Key Partners: University of Nevada Reno, US Forest Service, Trout Unlimited, UC Davis
