Restoring Paiute Cutthroat Trout to their Historic Range

Paiute cutthroat are the rarest of native California trout. All populations of the Paiute cutthroat trout are small and isolated, and therefore vulnerable.

Our objective is to protect the long-term sustainability and genetic integrity of this species by supporting the removal of non-native fish and the reintroduction of Paiute cutthroats in its entire historic range.

To this end, we will:

  • Garner public support of the proposed Non-native Species and Reintroduction Restoration Project proposal
  • Support implementation and pre- and post-restoration project monitoring

Key Partners: California Department of Fish & Game, US Fish & Wildlife Services, US Forest Service, Lahontan Water Quality Control Board, Alpine Watershed Group
