Every 30 to 50 years, we are given a rare opportunity to shape dam operations and water flows through the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission’s (FERC) 5-year re-licensing process.
Currently, CalTrout’s Northern Sierra staff is beginning to engage in re-licensing procedures for the Tuolumne, Middle American, and Yuba Rivers. Our objectives are:
- To protect and enhance hydrological and ecological processes to sustain the long-term health of the native fish species within these iconic rivers
- To determine the feasibility of reintroduction of steelhead and salmon above dams
We accomplish this by:
- Protecting and restoring habitat
- Re-establishing natural flow regimes
- Supporting sound science
