Meadow Restoration Prioritization for Kern River Rainbow Trout Recovery

Prioritizing meadows for restoration

New Project!

Long-term Goal

Apply the Sierra Meadow Strategy approach to establish a prioritized
inventory of meadow restoration activities providing maximum habitat benefit for listed Kern River rainbow trout, amphibian, and bird populations within the Sequoia National Forest.

What We Will Achieve in 2016-17

  • Develop and conduct a geospatial analysis of approximately 55 meadows to identify priority sites for potential restoration;
  • Apply the American Rivers Scorecard (ARSC) approach to approximately 35 meadows to assess current, on-the-ground condition of these meadows;
  • Based on outcome of the ARSC assessment, implement an integrated assessment protocol to determine instream physical habitat conditions, amphibian and bird surveys.
