Sagehen Creek

Sagehen Creek is a small spring-fed tributary to the Truckee River. Sagehen’s watershed encompasses nearly 8,000 acres.

This creek has a long history of conservation and has been studied by professors from UC Berkeley for nearly 100 years. Through his research at Sagehen Creek, Luna Leopold created Fluvial Geomorphology.

Since 1951, UC Berkeley and the US Forest Service have operated a field station to monitor conditions on the creek. Sagehen contains brown and rainbow trout, but no self-sustaining population of Lahontan cutthroat trout.
