LEVEL OF CONCERN: LOW
Coastal Rainbow trout are the least vulnerable native trout species in California due to their high tolerance to a wide variety of environmental conditions, multiple life histories, and a large natural and expanded range (through introductions).
While their status score increased slightly since 2008 because they are not considered vulnerable to anthropogenic threats at this time,
total Coastal Rainbow trout abundance likely dipped in response to low streamflows and high temperatures associated with California’s historic drought from 2012-2016.
