KEYSTONE INITIATIVE
Building Community Presence in the Ventura Area
Establish CalTrout as Leader in Key Steelhead Territory.
Ventura County is associated with three of the four Core 1 O. mykiss populations (populations of southern Steelhead that have the highest intrinsic potential to contribute to the long‐term persistence of the species) within the Monte Arido Highlands Biogeographic Population Group. The Santa Clara, Ventura and Santa Ynez Rivers are all vital to the recovery of Southern steelhead, as well as sustaining local agricultural economies.
Through the leadership of the steelhead coalition and the implementation of proof-of-concept projects that advance the restoration of the Santa Clara River and its tributaries, CalTrout will establish itself as a community leader in this important region.
LONG-TERM GOAL
Build a CalTrout presence in the Ventura community and Southern California and be recognized as a vital partner and leader for Southern steelhead recovery on the Santa Clara River, Ventura River and surrounding freshwater ecosystems.
Harvey Diversion Fish Passage Restoration Project
LONG-TERM GOAL
Restore fish passage and produce data to inform the final engineering design of Phase II.
R ECENT ACCOMPLISHMENTS
• Secured landowner to be the recipient of the outstanding $189,000 needed for construction. Identified funding through the USDA Natural Resource Conservation Service’s Environmental Quality Incentives Wildlife program.
• Solicited the services of a biological monitor to undertake necessary California Red Legged Frog Protocol surveys.
• Drafted access approval letters and subcontractor contract agreements.
• Project design is 98% complete.
WHAT WE WILL ACHIEVE IN 2015-16
• Secure the remaining $189,000 needed for construction.
• Begin construction in fall 2015.
• Collect data to inform the final engineering design of Phase II.
South Coast Steelhead
12th Street Infiltration Gallery

RECENT ACCOMPLISHMENTS
• Secured approximately $152,000 through CA DFW’s FRGP Drought for construction of the infiltration gallery.
• Participated in site assessment, a condition of project permitting, along with The Nature Conservancy (landowner), and survey team.
WHAT WE WILL ACHIEVE IN 2015-16 (FROM 2014)
