West Walker River Headwaters conservation work
Golden Trout Wilderness Meadows and Golden Trout Restoration and Recovery
LONG-TERM GOAL
Restore the ecological health of meadows and native golden trout populations within the Golden Trout Wilderness.
RECENT ACCOMPLISHMENTS
• CalTrout, along with project partners, completed a comprehensive condition assessment of more than 30 meadows within the Golden Trout Wilderness.
• Completed final report highlighting physical and biological conditions as well as presenting restoration priorities supporting the continued recovery of California golden trout.
WHAT WE WILL ACHIEVE IN 2015-16
• Based on the recommendations in our final report (see above), CalTrout intends to work with the Inyo National Forest
to implement priority restoration needs.
• Implement on-the-ground actions by summer 2016.
KEYSTONE INITIATIVE
Eastern Sierra Water Resources
and Climate Change Policy,
Planning and Management
Balancing Supply and Demand for Fish and Communities.
Throughout the eastern Sierra, including Owens River geography and the Mono Basin, water resources are managed to support healthy aquatic ecosystems and wild trout populations that are resilient to climate change and to support regional communities.
Eastern Sierra Regional Climate Change Analysis and Adaptation Planning
LONG-TERM GOAL
Across the Inyo-Mono Integrated Regional Water Management Program’s planning area (Inyo and Mono Counties and associated headwaters), improve community capacity and ecosystem resiliency necessary to adapt and sustainably manage impacts of climate change.
RECENT ACCOMPLISHMENTS
• As part of the larger Inyo-Mono Integrated Regional Water Management Program (that CalTrout founded and has served as the lead entity since 2008) efforts have centered on planning and aligning regional entities and coordinating with The Stockholm Environment Institute, UCLA, CA DWR and the LA DWP to develop a plan of action.
Osa Meadow & Kern River Rainbow Restoration
LONG-TERM GOAL
Create greater ecological resilience of Osa Meadow to climate change and other stressors and recover Kern River rainbow trout populations.
WHAT WE WILL ACHIEVE IN 2015-16
• Work with project partners to (1) complete project design and NEPA requirements and (2) initiate restoration actions to restore hydrologic connectivity of the Osa Meadow system.
