Martis Creek

Martis Creek is located south of Truckee and is a small tributary of the Truckee River.

A reservoir, built on the creek, is used for flood control by the city of Truckee. The watershed encompasses 26,204 acres.

This was California’s first reservoir to be a designated Wild Trout Water. It was initially designated for the Lahontan cutthroat trout, but populations of this species declined due to competition with non-native stocked species.

Currently, there are self-sustaining populations of rainbow and brown trout in the creek and the reservoir. The watershed remains Wild Trout Water for its angling opportunities.
