California’s anglers probably aren’t dancing in the streets when they read that we’re heading for the driest calendar year in recorded history (they certainly aren’t dancing in the rain).
From the SF Chronicle:
Thirsty California may get a smidgen of rain this coming week, but it is not likely to change what, so far, has been the driest calendar year in recorded history.
No rain at all fell in San Francisco in October and only 3.95 inches has fallen since Jan. 1, the smallest amount of precipitation to date since record keeping began 164 years ago, according to the National Weather Service.
Piled on top of a whole laundry list of water woes (precipitous declines in groundwater levels throughout the state due to overpumping, empty reservoirs and ongoing legal battles over water), it’s not happy reading.
This is becoming more alarming with every passing day..I have lived through many dry years in Ca. but this is beyond the beyonds…If this is what global warming has in store??!! well the future picture is horribly grim…people tell me that Calif. always goes through dry times…so just enjoy the “GOOD” weather???!! even so called Meteorologist in the media chime in with “Threat” of rain and “high pressure helping to keep the rain out of our area”…there are over 40 million people …huge agriculture..industry..all sucking water from every pore without so much of a passing thought about the endless pattern of blocking high pressure…things could change..but if you look at the trends 70% of the time we have a dry Oct and Nov. we go on to have a dry year…I pray we get bailed out by a 30% chance of something…thanks for at least printing this and trying to wake people up to the Drought..it is a Natural disaster!!
