Congratulations to the winners of CalTrout's 2024 Fish Water People Photo Contest presented in collaboration with California Fly Fisher Magazine!

This year had some very close competition. Our contestants blew it out of the water with spectacular photos of California's outdoor treasures. Thank you to everyone who participated in the contest by submitting a photo and/or voting.

And now we're excited to announce the winners:

Grand Prize: "Rocky Reflection" by Bryan Wuerker

"After climbing and snowboarding down the snowy Mt. Morrison, we raced the sun back to Convict Lake. Trout surfaced at the edges of the frozen lake while cotton candy clouds floated overhead."

People's Choice Award: "Sunset on the Middle Fork of Feather River" by Mike Pease

"One late summer evening on the Middle Fork of the Feather River during a mayfly hatch, an unusual summer rain cleared and the sun poked out under the clouds. When I turned around to see what you see in the photo I felt in awe of the river and scene that I have fished my entire life."

Emerging Photographer Award: "Mirrored Moments: Angler and Fish" by Andrew Notter

"I was hiking into one of my favorite runs on the Lower Yuba River with my buddy Cole to fish dries during an evening caddis hatch. On our hike in we saw this fish sitting in a side channel a couple runs above Parks Bar Quarry and it ate Cole's chubby mid afternoon on the first cast."

Best Photo Awards:

"Chasing Rainbows" by Phil Reedy

"I focus a lot on fly fishing photography and am always on the lookout for beautiful locations around the state that can serve as backdrops for fishing photos.  Chasing Rainbows was taken at North Lake west of Bishop and I also took a number of fishing pictures during that trip, one of which was on the cover of Southwest Fly Fishing magazine a few years ago."

"Peaceful River" by Phil Reedy

"Peaceful River was taken near Sierra City on the North Fork of the Yuba, one of my favorite waters.  The rocks along the river are brilliantly colored and the water a deep green looking from above, so it is very striking."

"Headwater Rainbows" by Sage Ono

"I found this pair of kern river rainbow trout while exploring the headwaters of the south fork of the kern river. It was quite a surprise to find them here, but it made for a lovely experience snorkeling in the crystal clear waters."
