"After a hike to Nevada Falls, I paused at the the Yosemite Valley viewpoint and was initially disappointed by the rain, but I stayed to watch the Merced River and was rewarded when the sun started to break through the clouds, casting a dramatic and mysterious light on the river, El Capitan, and Bridalveil Fall."

"I took this photo on upper Butte Creek, Chico, California in June of 2025. Butte Creek is home to one of California's largest wild salmon runs. I spent the day with some folks from the Wild Salmon Center and the Friends of Butte Creek. After taking some group photos, I settled in to take a few salmon shots and was distracted by two butterflies fluttering together over the creek. I took a few shots of the butterflies and the trout popped out of the water attempting to snag one. "

"I took this picture at Webber Lake. The day before, I was fishing during a prolific mayfly hatch, with trout leaping 6–12 inches out of the water for hours. I went back the next day with my camera, waded in belly-deep, and spent nearly three hours trying to capture one of those airborne trout in focus."

Best Fish Photo Award: "Backcountry Reward" by Seth Blackamore

"I enjoy photographing fish just as much as I enjoy catching them. Here, my good friend James, was reeling in a California Golden Trout he caught and released on a size-14 Caddis dry fly. There’s no better feeling than sight-casting to rising Golden Trout along the shoreline of a remote backcountry lake in the heart of summer. Time spent in the backcountry can lead to the most rewarding experiences, and this photo encapsulates a moment in time that makes all the hard-earned miles worth it. "

Congratulations to our winners! Photo submissions for next year's contest will open in summer 2026.
