Support the Public Lands Act

Tell Congress to Support the Public Lands Act

We are currently working to help pass the Protecting Unique and Beautiful Landscapes by Investing in California (PUBLIC) Lands Act that will help protect our natural landscapes and the future of the industries that depend on them. View our letter of support here.

The PUBLIC Lands Act has been wrapped into the House National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) which includes four public lands protection bills that would protect more than a million acres of public lands and 684 miles of wild and scenic rivers in California, authored by Rep. Jared Huffman, Rep. Salud Carbajal, Rep. Judy Chu, and Rep. Adam Schiff.

These public lands provisions are not in the Senate version of the NDAA and the Senate version of the PUBLIC Lands Act, introduced by U.S. Senators Kamala D. Harris (D-CA) and Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) in February 2020 has stalled out in the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources. As such, it’s imperative that it remains in the bill. The House and Senate conferees may meet as soon as this week to work out the final version of the bill. This may be our last chance in this session of Congress to move these important California bills to President Trump’s desk for his signature. 18 House members from California are on the conference committee, so we have a good opportunity to move these bills as part of the NDAA package.

We’ve drafted a letter (see link above) from the angling and outdoor communities and would like to get your sign-on. Please review the letter by Thursday, December 3 and sign with your support. We will send this letter to House Representatives on the NDAA committee as well as the authors of the original bills.
