A painterly take on something seen too rarely in California’s rivers — a spawning salmon. This is one of many now returning to The Nature Conservancy’s Shasta Big Springs Ranch on a restored Big Springs Creek (on Northern California’s Shasta River).
CalTrout is a partner with The Nature Conservancy in helping restore the Shasta River and Big Springs Creek — key salmon spawning tributaries of the Klamath River.
Shasta Big Springs Ranch is a working cattle ranch designed to showcase the ability of agriculture and salmon to co-exist. Given the vast numbers of salmon currently in the newly restored Big Springs Creek and Shasta Rivers, it’s working.
