Terms of Use
Effective date: August 18, 2026
Welcome to California Trout. These Terms of Use govern your access to and use of caltrout.org and other California Trout websites that link to these terms (collectively, the “Website”). The Website is operated by California Trout, Inc. (“CalTrout,” “we,” “us,” or “our”).
Please read these terms carefully. By using the Website, you agree to these terms to the extent permitted by applicable law. If you do not agree, please discontinue your use of the Website.
1. About the Website
CalTrout provides information and resources about conservation, native fish, watersheds, scientific research, advocacy, events, and ways to support our work.
Website content is provided for general informational and educational purposes. Although we work to keep information accurate and useful, content may contain errors or become outdated. Research findings, project details, event schedules, and other information may change.
Website content does not replace professional legal, tax, financial, or other advice. Maps, descriptions of waterways, and information about outdoor activities do not establish public access rights or guarantee safe conditions. Before visiting a location or participating in an activity, verify current access permissions, conditions, closures, and applicable rules with the appropriate authorities.
2. Permitted Use and Website Content
Unless otherwise identified, the Website’s text, photographs, illustrations, videos, maps, reports, designs, logos, and other materials belong to CalTrout or are used with permission from their respective owners.
You may view, download, and print materials for personal, noncommercial, or classroom educational use, provided you preserve copyright notices and attribution and do not misrepresent the materials or their source. Materials carrying separate license terms are governed by those terms.
Except as permitted by law or an applicable license, you must obtain permission from the appropriate rights holder before commercially reproducing, selling, licensing, modifying, or redistributing Website materials. Photographs, artwork, and other third-party materials may require permission from their owners.
Nothing in these terms limits fair use or other rights provided by law.
3. Names, Logos, and Links
The California Trout and CalTrout names, logos, and other identifying marks belong to CalTrout. Other names and marks appearing on the Website belong to their respective owners.
You may link to publicly available Website pages, provided your link does not falsely suggest sponsorship, endorsement, or affiliation. You may not use CalTrout’s logo or branding to imply approval of your organization, products, or services without written permission.
You may not frame or present Website content in a way that conceals its source or misleadingly makes it appear to be your own.
4. Responsible Use
You agree to use the Website lawfully and respectfully. You must not:
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to accounts, systems, or nonpublic information.
- Introduce malicious software or interfere with the Website’s operation or security.
- Impersonate another person or misrepresent your identity or affiliation.
- Submit fraudulent donations, registrations, or other transactions.
- Harass or threaten others, or submit unlawful or infringing material.
- Collect personal information about other users without authorization.
- Use automated tools in a manner that materially disrupts the Website or bypasses access restrictions.
We may restrict access when reasonably necessary to address misuse, protect users or systems, or comply with legal obligations.
5. Donations and Recurring Giving
The Website provides opportunities to support CalTrout through donations. Online donations may be facilitated through Fundraise Up or other designated service providers.
When making a donation, you agree to provide accurate information and use a payment method you are authorized to use. Review the amount, frequency, designation, and other details displayed before submitting your donation.
If you select recurring giving, you authorize charges at the amount and frequency disclosed during the donation process until you cancel. You may request changes or cancellation through the donor-management options provided with your donation or by contacting info@caltrout.org
