In response to the recent Eureka Times-Standard article “HSU studies to examine how Eel River dams impact salmon,” CalTrout North Coast director, Darren Mierau, issued a statement to the paper clarifying CalTrout’s position.
California Trout, one of the organizations funding this research by HSU’s River Institute, has a distinguished record of supporting sound scientific research as the primary basis for managing natural resources. Unfortunately, the article misrepresented CalTrout’s position on this important matter. CalTrout is not an “anti-dam organization.” We remain objective and weigh the benefits and impacts of dams on a case-by-case basis.”
