As part of the pledge process, Brown Folks Fishing partnered with REAL Consulting to create a foundational workshop that CalTrout pledgees took part in.
Most recently in February 2022, CalTrout celebrated the completion of the workshop by all staff. The workshop was facilitated by Erica Nelson and Sydney Clark Whittington and they guided our employees through a personalized learning curriculum, starting at personal identity and then ranging through a number of topics, including understanding systems of oppressions, and reflecting on organizational characteristics that serve or do not serve our larger goal of a culture of inclusivity and care.
CalTrout believes in a future where fly-fishing, as both a sport and tool for experiencing the natural world, is welcoming to all groups of people who wish to learn and engage with it. By signing onto the Angling for All pledge, CalTrout is better served to develop our strategies for enhancing equity and diversity across staff and executive teams and we are seeking to dismantle systemic barriers to entry and participation at all levels of the fishing industry.
We at CalTrout are extremely appreciative of Brown Folks Fishing and REAL Consulting for the opportunity to sign onto this pledge and take part in a meaningful piece of in this ongoing educational journey for our organization.
