High runoff on the Truckee River is making for a busy search & rescue team (from the Sacramento Bee):
The Reno Fire Department’s water entry team surpassed its normal 40 calls for an entire year earlier this week due to the heavy snowpack in the mountains that is melting later than usual. Team director Matt Peek tells the Reno Gazette-Journal they’ve had 15 calls since the heat wave moved in over the weekend, including five calls on Tuesday and four on Wednesday.

While most of the rescues are rafters and kayakers, it’s still true that many of the state’s river experiencing high (and remarkably late) runoff conditions.
Don’t assume your river’s wadable because it always is this time of year, or that you can reach your usual spots.
