Congratulations to the South Coast Steelhead Coalition for receiving three grant awards from the California Department of Fish and Wildlife for fisheries restoration in the South Coast region. These projects will:
- preserve native trout of steelhead descent in Coldwater Creek (led by Riverside-Corona Resource Conservation District)
- support community water conservation and habitat restoration in San Luis Rey River (led by San Luis Rey Watershed Council)
- enable fish passage on the Santa Margarita River (led by Trout Unlimited)
Thanks to Sandra Jacobson, CalTrout’s South Coast Steelhead Coalition Manager, for her help in securing these grant awards and teaming with Coalition partners to develop the strategic framework.
The San Luis Rey project is focused on innovative efforts to increase agricultural irrigation efficiency and residential grey water use. The goal is to keep water available to residents, business, and trout in Pauma Creek and the broader San Luis Rey basin.
