CalTrout hosted a screening earlier this week of Wild Reverence: The Wild Steelhead’s Last Stand by filmmaker Shane Anderson. Approximately 150 people attended the show at the Lark Theatre in Marin County that chronicles the plight of the iconic wild steelhead along the west coast of America.
An informative Q&A was held after the movie with Shane and CalTrout’s Jeff Thompson, Curtis Knight and Mike Weir covering topics such as the drought, hatchery management, and environmental threats to the species.
The screening was extremely timely and relevant given the release yesterday of a study by researchers at Oregon State University that found exposure to iron pipes and steel rebar, such as the materials found in most hatcheries, affects the navigation ability of young steelhead trout by altering the important magnetic “map sense” they need for migration.
