In August, CalTrout hosted two donor recognition events – one in San Francisco and one in Los Angeles. Anders Halverson, author of An Entirely Synthetic Fish (winner of the 2010 National Outdoor Book Award) spoke about the artificial propagation of rainbow trout and why it has become the most commonly stocked and controversial freshwater fish in the United States.
Understanding the history of hatchery programs and the impact of introducing hatchery fish on wild and native fish is particularly timely given reform efforts in California. Both events were well-attended and resulted in lively conversation –- proving that CalTrout supporters are a passionate bunch, willing to engage in issues central to our mission like this one.
At the Los Angeles event, which was hosted at L.A. City Hall, Romel Pascual, L.A.’s Deputy Mayor for Energy and Environment, presented CalTrout Board Member, Eric Callow, with a certificate of acknowledgement for his leadership in environmental conservation in Southern California. We thank and congratulate Eric on his hard work on behalf of CalTrout.
