Volunteer with Us

Community is at the heart of conservation, and as we all know, many hands make light work! CalTrout volunteers are passionate about fish, water, and people and are looking to make a real impact.

Across the state we're taking a look at our projects and putting real effort into elevating opportunities for participation. We need your hands-on support to build community participation in our restoration, advocacy and engagement efforts across the state!

Complete the form below to be added to our volunteer database, with options to choose your interest areas and availability. You'll be added to our volunteer mailing list and notified when there are opportunities in your region. Commitment levels vary, with some opportunities requiring more in depth training, while others you only need to show up.

Volunteer Days at Lhiwetgut along the Baduwa’t (McKinleyville)

Join the stewardship work days with CalTrout! Volunteer with us and become a steward of the Lhiwetgut site along the Baduwa't. We believe that a healthy landscape is one that people are tending - and these actions create a healthy community. Get to know this site and get to work! Explore the site with CalTrout's team and discover what we can all do to help shape a thriving ecological system. Dress to get dirty - long pants, long sleeves, boots and gloves. Some tools will be provided - feel free to bring your own as well.

We currently have four stewardship dates scheduled from 9am-12pm: June 22nd, July 6th, July 20th, and August 3rd. Interested in getting involved? Click here to find out more!

Trout in the Classroom Program

In the Bay Area, we partner with elementary and middle schools to bring California Department of Fish and Wildlife's Trout in the Classroom program to their classroom. We are looking for volunteers to support classrooms in San Francisco, Half Moon Bay, and Fremont! Interested in getting involved? Sign up below and we will be in touch as soon as we can.

In-stream Opportunities with South Coast Steelhead Coalition

We have two exciting opportunities to get involved in our South Coast region! 1) Post-rain recon for steelhead in one (or more) of four high priority rivers: San Juan Creek, San Mateo Creek, Santa Margarita River, San Luis Rey. 2) eDNA testing in San Juan and Trabuco Creek: molecular biological screening for rare species over long stretches of river.

Interested in getting involved? Email CalTrout South Coast Project Coordinator Nate Yancheff (nyancheff @ caltrout.org) to find out more.
