Project Description

Tucked in the far northwest corner of the state, the Smith River remains one of California’s healthiest, most pristine rivers and is a critical salmon and steelhead stronghold. Working alongside Smith River Alliance, CalTrout is defending the watershed from nickel mining, pesticides from lily-bulb farming, and highway construction (101, 199), among other threats. We have advocated for, and thanks to the help of our supporters, succeeded in designating the Smith as an Oregon Outstanding Resource Water. We will remain forever vigilant in monitoring threats and advocating to protect the North Fork Smith watershed.
