Project Description

The McCloud and Shasta dams have degraded the McCloud watershed’s pristine habitat, blocking salmon and steelhead migration access and diverting over 80% of the McCloud River’s emerald green waters for hydropower. These dams as well as the introduction of non-native species led to the extirpation of Bull Trout from the drainage. We are now fighting a proposal to raise Shasta Dam which would further inundate up to three miles of blue ribbon wild trout fisheries on the Upper Sacramento and McCloud rivers. It would also override the state Wild and Scenic Rivers Act, setting a dangerous legal precedent.
